I borrowed this log book from John Calhoun. This 8½" x 11" wirebound book has a black front cardboard cover and no back cover. A loose back sheet is labled Choccolocco Shelter 3-23-10 ↓ 01-22-12 and also has a table of game scores. Otherwise, there are no loose pages and little water damage.

23 March 2010 1 Hiker Mark R - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
Must have missed you, John. Came into camp @ 3:00pm. Place looks good. Wondering what happened to the hatchet I left here last season!
24 March 2010 1 Hiker Burt, Andrew W - Day Pinhoti Trail
It's been 20 odd years since I've seen these woods! Ain't changed much. Lake still looks the same? Or I'm just old, who knows? Keep this place clean and neat for all who pass this way to enjoy! Keep your laces tight and a smile on your face and enjoy the outdoors.
27 March 2010 1 Hiker True, Tim, Irish - Day Pinhoti Trail
Saturday. Beautiful day. Just taking a break. I don't know how far 'til camp. The trail has been well maintained. I think I passed only 1 blowdown. ☮ & ♡
Good to see ya again. OXOX to you → Mother Nature's Son

Brought the whole crew this trip. Short hike from Burns Trailhead with kids. It's a wonderful warm night for this time of year. We are fourteen people in all with several first timers. 10 April 2010 3 Hikers Eric, Erica, Lucas J - Day Pinhoti Trail
Short hike from Burns Trailhead to Choccolocco Shelter, but for a 6 year old and a 3 year old this is paradise. We are trying to section hike the Alabama Pinhoti. Enjoy the pink & purple flowers. Many thanks and God Bless.
11 April 2010 1 Hiker Ryan - Day Pinhoti Trail
Stopped for lunch. Nice shelter! Too bad people don't take care of it and leave their plastic cheap mattresses / swim toys.
13 April 2010 1 Maintainer John Calhoun Leeds, Al Day Pinhoti Trail
In for another short work trip. I cleared about 6 dead pine blowdowns between the dam and the switchback down to the creek. Hope all the hikers enjoy the Pinhoti. Probably won't be back until fall.

29 April 2010 1 Hiker Sunset - Day Florida, Pinhoti Trail, South Carolina
Homebound journey: Key West - Rocky Bottom, South Carolina
Thursday. In for the night. Got mixed up on date. Last night at Lower Shoal Shelter I put the 1st? I been in the woods too long. I just love the Pinhoti Trail. Thanks all you trail crew. Good Job. I'm trying to throw out of path "Small stuff." I carry heavy weight poles just for that. Always trying to put something back into the trail. Just think if every hiker would help move the "small stuff" then the trail crew could worry about big blow downs!! Let's do it, Hikers! Love to all the trail folks! Come on up Puff & Huff!!
AT04, PCT06, CDT08, FT10: But Pinhoti Best All Overall!!!
30 April 2010 1 Hiker HR Huff & Puff - Many Eastern Continental Trail
Friday. 11:30pm. Well, after an exciting hike on narrow trail with numerous stream crossings, I am in for the night. These shelters are nifty. If I may make suggestion - Bug Screen... → Would help a great deal for shelters located near water. Sorry to miss Sunset. We've been dodging each others all through Florida and Alabama. Hope to see hime someday.
PS I may complain about lack of screen, but really, I know trail work is hard, and shelters are a luxury, so thank you! ☺ Smile!
11 May 2010 2 Hikers John, Christine - Day Pinhoti Trail

5 June 2010 1 Hiker Lawrence A / Baro, Andrew B / Rumy Master - Day Pinhoti Trail
Got chased today by hobbits in tuxedos. At first I thought they were simply angry midgets, but after one knocked me down and stepped on my face with his big hairy hobbit foot, there was no doubt. In the end, they robbed us of all our Pop-Tarts & Pickle Juice. I'm still surprise how hobbits living in Alabama managed to rent tuxedos.

Monday, 12:30pm. In again to clear this section south of here.
Please, folks who visit here, show respect.
It is your tax dollars which paid for this shelter but VOLUNTEERS built and paid for the steps, cooking shelf, and picnic table.
We also maintain the trail.
We don't get paid for this;
It costs a lot of time and money.
Please pack out your trash, and next time you come, bring a broom to replace the one we left here.

8 March 2011 1 Hiker Hemlox - Day Pinhoti Trail
SOBO from here trail well maintained overall. However, the first mile or two there are spots where the trail has washed away and they are hard to see because of leaf build up. Watch your step!! Also the recent rain has washed away the beaver dams, which is unfortunate... but the beavers have already started to rebuild. Thank you to the people who maintain the trail & shelters. For everyone else, please pick up your trash.

Here again. Strange coincidence brings me back here exactly one year from the last day I wrote. It seems cooler this time than last. Turkey hunting again this year as well. As of right now I can't buy a gobble but that is fine. I'm going to try to pack a float tube or canoe in next time for a little fishing excursion. Should be an incredible place to set camp for a few days. I really enjoy this spot. Unfortunatly, my father had a back surgery and can't make the long hikes for these hunts. Enjoy your time outdoors with your loved ones! Take care.

My son and I ran a group of turkey out as we were coming in. Had a perfetly clear night to poke around in the fire, nice and cold too. We have never taken advantage of a trail shelter on any of our other hikes but it was very comfortable, a nice change from the ground. Probably won't pass up the chance to sleep in another one.
35 more miles to go.
