13 September 2014 2 Hikers Fish, G-Pa - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
Fish & G-Pa hiked in from Coleman Lake Trailhead. Will spend the night here and hike back tomorrow. We burned all the burnable trash and put all the non-burnable trash in the cooler that someone drug in, most likely fall, but did not carru out. Hopefully someone will take it with them going north less than 2 miles to the (Pinky Burns) Trailhead.
If you are headed south from here, the next 3 miles has a lot of blowdowns blocking the trail. The next 4 has a lot of weed cover.
Also, once you cross the dam, bushwhack down to the west. Trail enters the wood by a large blowdown. Not well blazed.

15 March 2015 2 Hikers Crimson N, his Dad - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
Crimson N and my dad spent the night here in this shelter. We fished and had trouble making the fire because it was all wet. I'm 13 and my dad is 39. He told me he slept so hard he thought he was having a stroke. And I was terrified of a spider crawling on me when I saw green eyes and my told me it was a panther "act dead!" And it sounded like a screaming baby. So please be careful.
23 March 2015 2 Hunters Crimson N's Dad, Daniel S - Day Pinhoti Trail
UPDATE: I am Crimson N's dad! Today is Tuesday, 23 March in the year of our Lord 2015! I had to get to the woods of some PEACE and Quiet! I came in from the Pinky Burns Trailhead around 12:30pm. Got here around 2:30. I popped at a turkey, a wood duck, and a couple of mocking birds on the way in with me ye old STOGER Rga! I met a dude that was heading north to CANADA! He must have won the lotto to have that much time off! The Sweetgums are just beginning to bud green! It is now around 5:45 and the sun is setting just over the hill facing to the west! Birds are everywhere and bugs are beginning to ease out! Sippin' on some JACK trying to cluck up some supper! The fish are not biting and the sun is falling fast; got to go! We be back!
PS I took a massive B.M. (AKA DUMP) behind the shelter in that old tire. Heads Up!
18 March 2015 1 Hiker McD - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
Read the post about the panther. So I spent the night wittling a spear, for protection against said panther. No panther, but I leave the spear for future protection against wildlife and for general horseplay. Enjoy the woods, enjoy the shelter, enjoy the creek, then wonder why you left. Godspeed. McD

8 June 2015 1 Hiker - - Day Pinhoti Trail
Came here to enjoy some time to myself. Fished, caught on spot, down by the spill. Saw many Gars and a huge carp. Came up here and saw what I thought was a snake in the shelter; killed it and found out it was actually a glass lizard (legless lizard) about 3 feet long. That's the second one I have seen and killed by accident while here. (Extremely rare in TNF.) Whoops.

On another note, this place has been trashed since it was built. Oh well, I guess that's just what we have to dea with. Still nice to have.

Think long and hard about the nature around you. It looks designed, doesn't it!

22 September 2015 1 Hiker Erin B / Fancy Pants - Many Pinhoti Trail
Southbound on a through hike. Been nice so far. Had some short mile days, one in the rain. For real saw a scorpion on a picnic table. There was a water moccasin in the boulders on the spillway. Watch out if you get water there. I stopped on my glasses day 1. Lost the cup to my water bottle. Then threw a rock over a branch to hang the food, but I was standing on the rope and it bounced back and hit me on the head real hard. I also lost my headlamp last night. So far, so good.
22 September 2015 1 Hiker Destin D - Many Pinhoti Trail
Map If you are northbound here is what I and my partner from the previous entry can offer the hiker that is reading this:
- Water up here for sure.
- Only one water source between here and FS55.
- Gets rough and is not well blazed starting a few miles up, lasting a mile or so.
- If you encounter a bunch of old fire rings and know you are off trail; you may want to head west (We did.)
- Have fun
- Here's your next 8 miles:
Drop 500 feet next 1.25 miles.
From 1.25 milesand on very rugged.

24 October 2015 1 Hiker Pickleboots - Day Pinhoti Trail
One day there was a little boy named Charlie. He spilt pickle juice on his boots. And that's how he became Pickle Boots. But then a UFO came down from outer space. Pickle Boots got scooped up. It was pitch black for 5 hours. He became Pickle Boots that was so ugly he had snot pimples and even no eyebrows. Everyone hated Pickle Boots. Then one day he came up with the best revenge ever. Thought of he was going to put radiation goo all over the house. So he got to work. He worked hours and hours until he was finished. He spread it then everybody in that town was as ugly as he was. The End [This was a great Story!]

30 October 2015 2 Hikers Relentless, Creative Warrior - 9 Days Pinhoti Trail
Arrived 29th pm; left am. On a 9 day backpacking trip. Endured Hurricane Winds in Oakey Shelter. Trees & limbs falling all around us. Thank God we set our tent up in the shelter. Large limb fell on the shelter right above us. Getting from Section 12 to here was tough with our heavy packs. It has rained at some time every day so far but one. Clothes wet, nothing will dry out, blisters. Ready for this day with the sun that's starting to shine bright. Going as God leads today. Was really surprised to see food in the shelter. I guess bears, raccoons, mice, etcetera are not a problem here. Sad to see so many grafitti on this shelter. Sad for the hard work of the people who built it. Heard coyotes several times during the night. Thankfully, they didn't come here. Got close. Owls were talking. ☺ "Jesus Christ is Lord"

25 February 2016 1 Hiker HJ Brown Mt Juliet, TN & Randolph Co, Al Day Pinhoti Trail
What a great day for a hike. I loved seeing a significant amount of sun for the first time since last Friday. The trail is drying out. I love the variation from Laurel to here. Saw 3 wild turkeys, but that was all the wildlife. I was hoping to see the wily red cockaded woodpecker, but I didn't see or hear one. Chipmunk Canyon is beautiful, especially in the sunshine.
Thanks to Mother Nature's Son and all trail maintainers - May God bless you all. Hello to Mike & Kelly - Keep hiking your hike.

Hello it's me.
12 March 2016 ? Hikers Seekers of truth - Day Pinhoti Trail
The following entry is based on evidence presented in other entries in this log. On 25 October 2014 Trestin, Brandon, and Starla visited the area, where they stubled upon a hideously deformed man: Thomas. Thomas' story is documented in the entry titles "Pickle Boots." Despite his appearance, Starla fell in love with Thomas almost immediately. In the 25 October entry, there is not mention of Thomas. However, in all insription in the shelter also dated 25 October 2014, it reads Starla N Thomas forever. This can only mean they met on the 25th after they wrote the entry. 2 days later, Thomas wrote an entry under the alias "The Walking Rock." In an entry dated 12 June 2015 a potrait of Thomas can be found. The cryptic entry, which is obviously Thomas' attempt at imitating a woman named Jasmine, implies he murdered Starla for unknown reasons. Later entries depict his descent into madness. It is then that he writes "Pickle Boots." Some entries depict Thomas' grief and regret for killing Starla. On 16 March 2016, an entry mentioning both Starla and Thomas is written. However, Starla is obviously dead, and Thomas has possibly committed suicide over his grief. This is evidence of a massive cover up; a conpsiracy of silence. Did Starla and Thomas see something they shouldn't have? Was Thomas framed? If so, he must have been put under hypnosis and convinced he was guilty. Perhaps our own government is involved. Did this have something to do with a greater conspiracy? In the end, we are left with more questions than answers? What really happened to Thomas and Starla? Do you know the truth?

Headed out from Burns' Trailhead yesterday, to resupply at Steward's Market. HOT day for a roadwalk. Got a little sunburned. We were sweating like Ted Cruz's wife when he pushes the twin beds together.
A couple of local guys offered us a ride to the store on 9, and we gladly accepted. Nicest guys in the world. They even gave us a ride back to Burns after.
Hung out and drank a few for a while. Hope we can pay back the hospitality one day.
Sorry I wrote through Pickle Boots. I think I managed to salvage it on the next page!

Father-Son backpacking adventure. Coleman Lake over Dugger Mountain. Camping here.

When you hike fromn Coleman Lake
And your foot starts to hurt
And everything is wet
From your socks to your shirt

You've tried for hours
To start a warm fire
But it's too hot anyway
So hot you perspire

So you settle down to sleep
But the chiggers start to creep

But at least you're outside
In this beautiful place
So you go to bed
With a smile on your face.

5 April 2017 12 Hikers Troop 430: Beverly C Roswell, Ga 4 Days Pinhoti Trail
2 Scoutmasters and 10 boy scouts from Troop 430 Roswell, Ga stayed the night down on the levee by the water. Woke up at 06:00 hours and packed way on up to sheleter before raging thunderstorm hit with hail. We are on a 4 day training hike for our summer hike at Philmont Scout Ranch. We have hiked from Trailhead of Section 9 and are taking out at end of Section 10. Warning for any going southbound from here... There is a huge tree that has fallen over on the hillside and is laying across a section of the switchback. We had to hand packs over and shimmy over the tree that is hanging over the dropoff. Lots of work. Other spots on the switchbacks where trees have fallen over and taken out part of the trail. Watch your step! This has been a good strenuous hike for training. Enjoyed the terrain better than the AT. Beautiful place. Troop 430 ASM Beverly C
5 April 2017 1 Hiker Troop 430: Mr. Tumms Roswell, Ga 4 Days Pinhoti Trail
Mr. Tumms from Troop 430 here. Last night I heard something heavy circling our tents. Didn't sound like a bear, plus it didn't go for the food wrapper someone left out. Sounded like human-ish walking pattern, but all the other guys say they weren't outside around then, around 5-5:30ish. Might have been bigfoot. Whatever it was, it circled Papa Smurf & Rayquarts tent for about ten minutes. I wonder if bigfoot's feet hurt as much as mine after hiking all day!
5 April 2017 1 Hiker Troop 430? Roswell, Ga 4 Days Pinhoti Trail
This is the 3rd day hiking thru the PT. In the wee hours of this morning a siren went off for the incoming storm. In my half asleep / dreaming mind, I thought it was marking the death of someone important. Kinda like the "Hunger Games." The siren kept going and I was thinking "Dang, this person must have been very important." Eh. The storm did, and so did hail, but it left after a few minutes.
5 April 2017 1 Hiker Troop 430: Muddobber Roswell, Ga 4 Days Pinhoti Trail
Muddobber here. Calling in from the training hike on day 4. Lost my compass and broke my sunglasses on the first day. Not fun. But it was fun being a "naviguesser" and camping for 4 days. But I'm ready to go home. P/U I smell.
5 April 2017 1 Hiker Troop 430 Roswell, Ga 4 Days Pinhoti Trail
8:09. We were sitting on a forest service road and myself, "Papa Smurf", and I was getting the logging trucks to honk and one slowed down and said "I don't have a horn." It was funny. Enjoy your days on the trail. Still looking for the bigfoot and Starla. Leaving Gold Bond for your tired feet.
5 April 2017 1 Hiker Troop 430 Roswell, Ga 4 Days Pinhoti Trail
Unfortunately, I do not have a trail name for I am lame. To be honest, I don't know how I'll do Philmont (12 days) because this is our 4th and last day and I am DONE. But alas, we go on, do we not? We do. I hope you all have a swell day & evening. You deserve it... unless you don't. Starla & Thomas decided to stop by & say hi. They're doing well. Anywho, Buongiorno, Buonagera, Buonanotte.
5 April 2017 1 Hiker Troop 430: Goldilocks Roswell, Ga 4 Days Pinhoti Trail
Bug Goldilocks - To my sadness, that is my trail name. Sadly, my patrol does not want to sing songs during a huge thunderstorm to keep moral high. Instead, 5am waiting for water to boil. That tree yesterday was a pain. Hunter Bug (Rip Van Winkle) is sleeping while everyone else is working!! He just woke up, and he hates "Hunter Bug!" If he reads this I'll be punched. It will be worth it to have this record of that nickname.

30 August 2016 1 Hiker GSM85 - Day Pinhoti Trail
Thomas is back! I saw him bathing near the spillway. He is still very deformed, including his genitals. I saw him scrubbing "down there" witha pine cone. When he saw me, he ran into the woods. At night, you can hear him moaning for his lost lover. It sounds very sad. He even gets so worked up about it that he ocasionally farts in dispair. I must go now because I hear footsteps coming this way...

1 April 2017 1 Hiker Greenman - Day Pinhoti Trail
First hike of the season. Coleman to Burns and it was a great day! Surprisingly I haven't seen much wildlife, as I normally always see so many critters on the Pinhoti, but day's not over yet. I believe this to be my 6th time doing this section and believe it to be one of the best of the stretch.
Heading north out of here follows the creek and are some choice little swimming holes to cool off in. I met a wierd looking fella up that way. Said his name was "PickleBoots," he didn't say much but shared some crackers and a fart with me. Seemed harmless enough other than the rabid looking possum he was keeping as a pet.
Anyway happy trails to all "2017"

The craziest thig happened on my way from Coleman to Burns trailhead. I walked up on two kinda deformed people. They were bathing and eating crackers and farting in the water so I wouldn't recommend as much. But I did get around them without them noticing me. So be on the lookout for these two people named Greenman and Pickleboots.
