29 October 2014 1 Hiker Tyler? - Many Pinhoti Trail
I started my journey Saturday morning at the Shoal Creek Trailhead by the railroad tracks. It was my brother's bachelor trip and we all camped out at the Lower Shoal Shelter Saturday night. Sunday I parted ways with them and hiked up to Sweetwater Lake, which was beautiful! I hung out there and later that day hiked up to Coleman Lake and found another beautiful camp Monday night. From Coleman I made the trek here. It was some serious hiking in one day, and I ended up having to use my headlamp for the last hour of the trek. It is rainging today, and I plan to ease my way to Oakey Mountain Shelter tonight, and finish up the Pinhoti Thursday evening. My original plan was not to hike the Pinhoti to the end, but to simply spend a week in the woods with God, but He placed the desire to finish it heading north. Saturday morning, my brother will run the Pinhoti 100. That's a 100 mile race, on foot, from Pine Glen Camp to Sylacauga. If anyone reads this in the next 3 days, Please say a prayer for Nathan's safety. Thank you to whoever built this shelter, for protecting me from the rain. Y'all have a blessed day.
31 October 2014 2 Hikers Kim H, Heather M - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
Started our adventure at Pinky Burns. Arrived at around 8:30pm. Camped on the old road in bitter wind on HALLOWEEN amongst a rain of acorns. No trees fell on our tents! Great hike over the mountain. Camping by the creek before 500. Going to check out fire tower road! Out tomorrow and heading back to CAMP McDOWELL! Perfect, peaceful hike.

Sunday. Northbound. Doing much of the ECT. Left Jacksonville, Florida on the 8th of October, connecting up with the Florida Trail at Olustee Historical State Park. Followed the FT, with its many roadwalks, for 518 miles, turning northward onto the spur trail, Blackwater River State Park. Crossed Alabama / Florida State Line Just west of Conecuh State Park. Then long road walks up through Alabama until just after Titus, Alabama, with the southermost section of the Alabama Pinhoti Trail as it descends down off Flagg Mountain, almost ending in the town of Weogufka, Al. From there, a roadwalk past Stewartville, Al connects again to the Pinhoti Trail at Trammel Trailhead. Then the Pinhoti goes through Bull's gap, Porter's Gap, Adama Gap, Cheaha State Park, Highway 431, FS500S Railroad Trailhead, Pine Glen, Burns Trailhead, and to here.
Hoping to cross onto the Georgia Pinhoti by Wednesday or Thursday of next week. And, using the Benton MacKaye Trail, to connect up with the Appalachian Trail by the 10th of January 2015.

25 December 2014 ? Hikers F: Mauric142 - Day Pinhoti Trail
I'm a senior in high school on a family Christmas trip. I found an axe head here. I made a handle for it. I hope it serves someone well. Please don't remove from the shelter unless it's life or death. Thoug I have no amazing story to tell on how I got here I will have one this summer. I'm hoping to take my first solo trip. No driving, only walking and hitchhiking and maybe water. I hope to go somewhere up north to mountains. Who knows. I might even stay for a while. Wish me luck. Soon to be a traveler into the wild.
30 December 2014 3 Hikers F: Lonnie, Katie, Cole S - Day Pinhoti Trail
Love you Jesus and God. ♡ 3:17pm. Hiked to this shelter. Had a great day. I love hanging out with daddy and brother. By the way I'm 9 years old and we walked all the way up here. 'Cause sometimes we have good times up here. No fighting. We do good up here. Nothing bad comes up here or comes in our way. We do great things up here. We bring snacks and bring drinks. We do good up here. Nothing bad comes up here or gets in our way. We are a great family BTW. I love my family. Nothing could ever replace them. They're the best family ever. Thank u God for my great and loving family. ☺

Green needles shading our bodies from the hot summer sol.

Started from the Burns Trailhead on Saturday morning & made it here by 4:30pm. Didn't see anything except for a tree fall right beside us whie we were eating lunch. So indeed if a tree falls in the woods, it does make a sound! ☺ It got into the 40s last night so it has been a bit cold. We're headed out this morning to the RV Campground. Happy Hiking!
PS There is a little firewood under the shelter, and a grill grate. (Take some, leave some.)

28 October 2015 2 Hikers Creative Warrior ♡ Relentless - Day Pinhoti Trail
On our way. ☺ Started at High Point. Got caught in the hurricane winds but thankfully we set up our tent in Oakey Mountain Shelter. Trees and limbs fell all around us. One landed on top of shelter - No damage but was right above us. Thankful for these shelters. On a 9 day trip, heavy packs make for hard workout on climbs. Very peaceful here. Had best night sleep so far. Thank you Jesus!! So far only one day with no rain. Enjoying our time together.
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Oh Lord make me dwell in safety. PS 4:8

Stardate: September 25, 1254

Venus, Huntress, Chula the Panther Wander women here for an overnight trip to check out Dugger Mountain Shelter this year. Hope to be doing a Pinhoti hike with the rest of our Wander Women soon. Had a great man free trip (Girl Power! LOL) Whoever was here last left a bag of trash and 3 half drank bottles of soda / Gatorade. This is unacceptable. Keep our shelter clean! The wolves and coyotes were sounding off last night and the owls were calling at 03:00. Nice cool breeze today. Started our fire with flint and steel for the first time. To prove we could. We hung hammoks outside shelter since it was a nice night. Our Cane Corso, Chula, patrolled the camp in the early morninghours. For dinner last night the human animals had steak & veggies and our canine counterpart had two pounds of raw sausage. We are sitting here writing in log book wrapping up our first Wander Women trip waiting on our ride back to civilization and the male species. ☹

Many of the spring crossings are dry until the next shelter (Oakey.) Had a wonderful ramen and Muesli Thanksgiving. Mom would throw a fit if she found out.

Pic of the place and me. It's one Saturday evening and we just hiked up the trail. And my friend just chopped down a small tree, and we're trying to get fire wood. And I have nothing to do but write this because my brother has a knife and he is carving stuff. So if you are reading this have a blessed day and thanks for your time.

Hello. My name is Danny. Came from California to Alabama to visit a friend I haven't seen in 9 years. Been in this state for 3 months already. My friend brought me here to enjoy the view. Must admit I love this. Sigh. Clam winds and birds singing. been a while since I've been in the forest / woods. This is a nice day. I chopped down my first tree... I know it sounds funny but for a city folk like myself it was an amazing experience. Hope I can come up here another day. Have a bless day... PS Hope this makes you laugh or smile.

30 April 2017 5 Hikers Huntress & the Boys, Venus & Husband, 2 dogs - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
Huntress here. Decided to brin my 2 sons up for a short overnight hike. Venus and her husband came with us. The shelter was clean and there was a small amount of firewood ready for us. We brought out dachshund Ginny (the fearless one) and our wolfdog Shade (Protector of the Furless). This last day in April is a nice one. It's about 77° and windy. Overcast, but no rain. We are going to Colorado in July and doing some smaller trips to work up to it. The boys enjoyed collecting firewood for the next hiker to pass through. We met 2 hikers from Birmingham out for an overnight trip as well. Hoping to be back while the weather is still this mild. Might be another Wander Woman trip in the making. If you are a woman lokking for other women to hike with, look up our group on Facebook. We are Wander Women. Enjoyed the great outdoors. Love bringing my family to this shelter. It's a nice getaway. About to return to civilization. Live long and prosper y'all. Have a great trip.
