Was here 26 April 2014 on hike from Pinky Burns to Cheaha!
I had a dream here 2014 about my brother Pyro (Eddie W.) He had a crash in a SUV. I told him to be careful when we get back home. 3 Days after we got home he rolled a friends SUV!
2 weeks ago I had another dream about a car wreck. Eddie was to come back up here with me but he was with his daughter and they got T boned in her new car and Eddie is in bad shape again?
They're both OK but Eddie is out of hiking for a long time now. No dream tonight.
Hunkered down for storm tonight just as we did on hike to Cheaha!? Saul
27 April 2016 thr
Storm Over, getting sunny. The glow bugs in April 26, 2014 came down all the slopes by the billions! Awesome sight! But last night it was only by the hundreds. This is a great place. Hope to bring friends up here, if I can get them out of A/C houses. Saul. Navigator
29 April 2017 2 Hikers Smiley, Ethan / Bucket / Snake - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
Good Times and Snakes
Got here last night around 6 and immediately started exploring the water. Snake. Bucket and myself (Smiley) came upon a surprising sight and many others. At the end of the night, the list of wildlife in the creek had composed of glowing sucker fish, crawfish, baby salamanders, frogs and 2 snakes, which is where Ethan got his nickname. He caught it by hand. Wildlife, deep talks next to a fire, and sleeping next to running water... 'nough said.

Oh and don't mess with the boot, it's got baby birds in it!!!

Till next time

Smiley, Bucket, Snake

Had the dogs with us. Boston, Yogi, Poopers, Dudley. Much fun.
9 June 2017 2 Hikers Gabe, Win - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
- Gabe, Win, and Bayo (German Sheperd, Golden Retriever)
- Thursday afternoon - started at Pine Glen, accidentally went northbound. Saw Sweetwater Lake and tent camped @ shelter. Nice fire. Since we hiked wrong direction we returned to Pine Glen to do section 9 southbound to Shoal Creek Ranger Station. Close to 50° or cooler @ dawn. Warm days. F ticks.
- If a thought doesn't feel good, think something different. ☺
- Most beautiful hike today. The wider creeks are amazing.
- Dinner was cheddar broccoli rice with summer sausage, fire roasted sweet, and russet potatoes, some organic black bean / strawberry puree for babies and Starbucks rita instant. No American Spirits left. No wood for reserve. We allright. Happy Happy Happy Trails!!

Win here with Gabe, I'm Bayo's owner. Gabe and I are both hearing voices in the creek and I have the distinct feeling that Native Americans inhabited this very shoal. They may have something to do with the voices. I just used my headlamp to view the creek & Gabe & I are about to go see the little waterfall up the fork in the creek. Gabe and I just met yesterday at Turnipseed campground in Talladega NF. We are both novice backpackers doing some of our first 50 miles of trail together just by happenstance. Within a couple of hours of meeting each other we threw together the idea of doing Section 9 of the Pinhoti. As Gabe said we accidentally went from Pine Glen northbound & did one night out at Laurel Shelter. Awesome experience getting to know each other some. Hike was 5 miles to Laurel, set up △ & 5 miles back to Pine Glen today. Once again we spontaneously to do what we set out to do in the first place, which was to hike southbound to Shoal Creek & then to the Shoal Creek Ranger District, completing section 9 instead of accidentally doing 10. How funny, awesome, fun, & totally spontaneous it's been. Hiking Backpacking has changed my life. After completing Section 9, I will have backpacked 40 miles between Cheaha Wilderness Trails and these portions of 9 & 10. This is all happening on my 2nd week of a 3 month road trip. I am currently with Bayo. What a start!!! I forsee myself backpacking for the rest of my days. Headed out west to Oregon or Washington, I think. No plans at all. Going where the wind takes me. Get busy living or get busy dying. My head is clear. So happy with life. I love this. Win
10 June 2017 2 Hikers Moe T Crow, KT Bug - Overnight Pinhoti Trail
Came from the ranger station for a quick shakedown for the AT trip next week. Met 3 folks, a dog, and a cat on the way in. Oh: and we fed a lot of ticks! Moe T Crow

After not doing any backpacking since last year, I found that this hike was definitely harder than expected. Here's to hoping I make it back from the AT! Beautiful camp full of butterflies. I would say it was worth it. Happy Trails! KT Bug

After rain for every day we hiked for the past 5 days, it was pleasant to not have all out gear soaked when we woke up in the morning. It was ESPECIALLY nice that we had just washed all our stuff the night before at the hostel, and it didn't get soaked. Hooray for dry socks!

Would have gone farther... but this shelter was too nice. Thanks, John!!

Sunday, 11:45am. In for a break. So far over the last several weeks I've refurbished the from County Road 24 / Able Gap Road north to here (about 22 miles.) 23 September 2017 1 Hiker - - Day Pinhoti Trail
Started the hike thinking it would be a good idea to spray Reple 100 DEET onto my junk. Made it all the way to the shelter to find that burning itch on my junk made them both look like the red flappy thing under a rooster's neck. Sat in the creek for about an hour trying to help the situation. (Don't use 100% DEET on special body parts.)
